Focussed operations by members of the Namibian Police netted five suspected drug dealers across Namibia over the weekend.
According to arrest reports provided by the Public Relations Division of NamPol, one of the suspected drug dealers was arrested in the Drimihopsis settlement in the Gobabis district on Friday evening.
“During the police operation, a 29-year-old man after he tried to flee from a police checkpoint in a red Volkswagen Golf. Members of the Namibian Police assisted by members of the Eastern Crime Forum pursued and stopped the vehicle in question and searched of occupants,” the report reads.
During the search of the occupants and the vehicle, officers found a parcel of 91 bags, also known as bankies, filled with a variant of cannabis known as skunk. The value of the drugs has not been determined yet.
The suspect was arrested and is set to make an appearance before the Gobabis Magistrate Court today.
The police in Windhoek arrested a 25-year-old man behind the Old Mutual building in the central business district of the capital when they found 28 units of crack cocaine in his possession on Friday afternoon.
The value of the illicit substance is estimated at N$2 800.
The suspect will appear before the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court today on charges of possession and dealing in illicit drugs.
In Tsumeb members of the Namibian Police arrested three men on different occasions when they were found to be in possession of illicit drugs
The first suspect was arrested near the Shoprite complex when a search of his person delivered 16 ballies of cannabis weighing a total of 15 grammes. The value of the cannabis is estimated to be N$150.
The second suspect from Tusmeb was arrested at the same location as the first.
During a search of his person, members of the Namibian Police found 23 ballies of cannabis (35 grams), 17 bankies of skunk cannabis (15 grams), five full mandrax tablets and three quarter pieces of mandrax tablets. Both substances were valued at N$2 140.
The third suspected drug dealer was arrested at the same location as the previous two when a search found him in possession of 21 ballies of cannabis (25 grams), eight full mandrax tablets, a half piece of a mandrax tablet and a quarter piece of a mandrax tablet.
The combined value of the drugs is estimated to be N$1 300.
All three of the suspects face charges of possession of and dealing in illicit drugs and will make their first appearance in this regard before the Tsumeb Magistrates Court today.
