Hyphen Hydrogen Energy’s US$10 billion green hydrogen project in the //Kharas Region is eying to supply Europe by early 2028.
This week, Hyphen Hydrogen Energy signed a Letter of Intent with Koole Terminals covering the proposed import of green ammonia into north-western Europe.
Hyphen intends to supply its customers using the import terminal being developed by Koole Terminals, located in the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Over the past year, Hyphen has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) targeting the supply of up to 750 000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.

The Port of Rotterdam is a critical hub servicing north-western Europe and has moved rapidly to support the establishment of new green hydrogen import capacity to facilitate this regions energy transition. Koole Terminals is one of the most advanced import terminals under development and we look forward to working with them to meet first supply of ammonia from our project into Europe by early 2028.”
John Kraakman, CEO of Koole Terminals, said: “We are pleased to work with Hyphen to become a customer of our planned Port of Rotterdam import terminal for ammonia. Hyphen is targeting annual production of one million tonnes of green ammonia to come on-line by the end of 2027, expanding to two million tonnes of green ammonia by 2029.
Hyphen Hydrogen Energy is a Namibian registered green hydrogen development company, specifically formed to develop green hydrogen projects in Namibia for international, regional and domestic supply. Hyphen successfully bid on and has been awarded preferred bidder status on 4,000km2 of land within the Tsau //Khaeb National Park for the development of Namibia’s first fully vertically integrated GW scale green hydrogen project. The project is being developed as the first step in the implementation of the Government’s strategy for the development of a large scale green hydrogen industry in various regions in Namibia to support both economic growth in Namibia and assist the world in achieving its decarbonisation goals.
This US$10 billion project is planned to be developed in phases, at full development targeting 350,000 metric tons of Green Hydrogen production a year from 5-6GW of renewable generation capacity and 3GW electrolyser, equivalent to 2 million tonnes per annum of green ammonia. The project, once fully developed, will employ an estimate 3,000 people, with 15,000 construction jobs supported over the four-year construction period, over 90% of which are expected to be filled by Namibians.
