Information and education about mental health issues among the men of Namibia along with gender-based violence is desperately needed to reduce instances of avoidable deaths and violent crime.
In this regard, men from all walks of life have been invited to attend the second annual Namibia National Men’s Conference in Swakopmund this Friday.
The conference will be presented with the theme: ‘’Stop suffering in silence and speak out for a solution’’.
The event, among other things, aims to create a platform for men to discuss issues affecting them, such as suicide, mental health, and financial literacy, promote positive masculinity, promote social behavioural change and encourage men to take a stand against GBV, create a platform for men to discuss community-based solutions to GBV, equip men with extensive understanding on GBV terminologies and the legal framework as well as educate men on how to cope with mental health, provide available alternatives and enlighten them to be accountable.
Organiser and founder of the men’s conference, DJ Munene said: “We promise those that want to attend this important event that it will be a life-changing moment. We will have a great time of men sharing life-changing ideas as well as building with each other on matters that shape their lives. I call upon all men from all over the country to not miss this important event.”
Keynote speakers at the conference will include, Police Commissioner Nicklaus Kupembona, Benson Matali, Deputy Director – Ministry of Gender, Charles Uugwanga, Chief Legal Officer of the Ministry of Justice, Bishop Lukas Katenda, Pastor Sem Abiatar, King Simon, D-Naff and many more.
The second edition of the Namibia National Men’s Conference will be hosted on Friday 12 May 2023 and will be presented at the Multipurpose Center Hall in Swakopmund.
“The event will provide all the entertainment, address social challenges including gender-based violence, how to be a successful man in a challenging economy as well as managing relationships in a manner that improves their influence,” Munene said.
The inaugural conference was held on the 17 of September 2022 and was sponsored by Sanlam Namibia and was attended by thousands of men from all walks of life.
Least year the conference was held at Ongwediva. Over 300 men attended the conference. Transport arrangements were made to collect men from far away areas, especially in rural areas.
