7 men who kidnapped a 30 year old taxi driver with a lime green Nissan march and used the vehicle to execute a robbery in Mondesa in Swakopmund at midnight on Saturday are still on the loose.
Erongo Regional Crime Coordinator Erastus IIkuyu said that the suspects are on the loose and so far nothing has been recovered yet apart from the car.
The driver was stopped by a group of men that he found in front of a Bar in Mondesa, whom he thought were genuine customers in need of transport.
The suspects started assaulting him with stones, tore his clothes, fastened his hands with a rope, blind-folded him with a piece of cloth that they cut from his clothes and loaded him into theboot of his taxi, where he was locked up.
It is further alleged that the suspects took over the vehicle and drove around while the victim was in the boot and robbed people that they found in the streets at gunpoint.
According to the victim, he heard a single gunshot at the second incident but he did not know at which place. The vehicle was found abandoned behind Festus Gonteb Primary School in Mondesa at about 06:00.
The victim was rescued by a passer-by who heard him screaming for help from the boot. The suspects took along the car keys, the jack and the locknut.
The taxi driver sustained injuries on the forehead above the left eye, on the shoulder as well as scratch marks on the stomach.
He was taken to Swakopmund State Hospital for medical examination and according to Iikuyu he is in a stable condition as police investigations are ongoing.
Additionally, the seven suspects are alleged to have searched and robbed another victim of a Samsung Galaxy J4 Core worth N$1500.00 as as well as a card holder containing his ID card and bank cards, as well as N$1,000 cash during their robbery spree.
